Welcome New Member, and June's book

I'd like to welcome Priti Johari to our Rekindled Book Club!! Priti has just finished an intense 1 yr Master's program at Harvard, and will be getting married next month to her Harvard-professor-fiance (wowsers!) ... and will be joining our book club!

Just wanted to double check on what was the status for our next  book -- 'Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter' by Tom Franklin. When is that supposed to be due by?

Let us know, and let's Rekindle the bookclub again!!

  1. Great! Welcome, Priti!

I'm fine with "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter", but if anyone has a book they've heard something about, I usually prefer personal recommendations. If not, let's start this book and be done with it by the end of June. I personally am reading other things as well so let's keep it to be one book per month. Let's decide the book within the next 2 days though, so we can get started on it assuming its a slow read and will take the full month.

  3. Thanks for the introduction, Antara!

I'm currently in the middle of A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. It is this year's Pulitzer Prize winner and most certainly different than anything I have read before...so it might be great for discussion.

    Either book works for me.

  4. Yay! A new member!

I'll be happy to read either book! But maybe we should read Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter this month and then A Visit from the Goon Squad next month? The latter seems to have some element of humor which could provide respite after the seriousness of CL,CL and Cutting for Stone.

  5. Ok, that is fine with me. Another humorous, light book that my cousin Shashank recommended was 'This is where I leave you.'

Let's put it to vote -- which one of these books would you want to do for the month of June?

    a) Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter
    b) A Visit from the Goon Squad
    c) This is where I leave you

Votes to be tallied by Monday, June 6th

  6. I think I could use light hearted. I also fear that CL,CL may fall flat because it's a thriller/suspense. My order of preference:

    1) This is where I leave you
    2) Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter
    3) A Visit from the Goon Squad (I got lost reading the synopsis, so I worry the same will be for the book. Also, I'm afraid of Priti's English skills :-) )

  9. Looks like this month is CL, CL? Is that the consensus? Vaish, if this is the case, you should order the book for me :)
